For my Zip project, I would like to learn more about writing screenplays and then translating them to visual media. My inquiring question: What challenges arise when adapting a written screenplay to the screen? I chose this because I already have a passion for filmmaking, but I have hardly made any real narrative content. What excites me about this project is I will get to explore new territory in an area I love deeply. I already have the skills necessary to make a film on my own, as I have done in the past, but what I will be focusing on for this project and what I will use to measure the success of my final product is how well I am able to convey a story that is engaging. I’m really hoping to expand on my narrative storytelling abilities a) because it is something I have not explored deeply enough in my passion, and b) so that I will feel more comfortable going forward with it in the future. I used to get mad at the camera and hate myself for wanting to become a filmmaker, now whenever I go filming the camera feels like an extension of my own body. I’m trying to work towards that same feeling when it comes to writing a story. The final product for this project will be a short film (<10 minutes), one that demonstrates more than just fancy camerawork and tells a genuinely interesting story.
